OUR MISSION
Our mission at First Step Learning Center is to nurture the innate curiosity of each child through an ever-evolving pedagogical approach based on the latest guidelines of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP). We are dedicated to providing an enriching and secure environment where every little explorer can thrive, fostering their holistic growth and preparing them for a bright future.
HOW WE TEACH
Each week we design an Educational Experience Plan
with activities that support the development of each child.
Our teaching method focuses on the following areas:
Cognitive Development
Here is where everything starts to make sense. We explain how things work. We encourage them to solve problems, ask questions, and make choices.
Social and Emotional Development
We help children understand their emotions and how to play with others. Our teachers invite and promote dialogue between them.
Health and Physical Development
We teach children to take care of themselves and to be independent.
Activities are carried out to help them develop fine and gross motor skills.
Language and Communication
This is an essential skill. We teach them to communicate effectively.
Receptive and expressive languages are developed by reading books, interacting, singing, conversing, and writing.
Our teachers also teach them to communicate through gestures and signs.
Art and Creativity
Children express their way of seeing the world and interpreting things through sound, dance, drawing, and theater.
Mathematics
We open the doors to the world of numbers, including patterns, measures, and shapes.
Science
Children learn the first concepts of science. We entertainingly teach them about living beings, the planet, and space.
Social Studies
Children learn the organization of the people around them, their families, the community, and the world.

We work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. You choose the schedule you need.
Continuous Communication HiMama
We know how important it is to see their first steps, their transition from bottle to cup or their first drawings. Through HiMama, we connect you with those significant changes. We share with you photos and videos, privately, so that you are always up to date.
Complete Nutrition
We offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks. A nutritionist designs our menu. It is important for us to promote healthy eating as part of the integral development of children.
ABOUT US
We have more than 25 years of experience in education and childcare. Our organization is accredited by NAEYC, licensed by the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood, and approved by the CACFP. Our staff is certified in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and Epipen.
We have grown consistently. Initially established as a Home Day Childcare, our experience allowed us to open a center in one of the main streets of New Haven, and shortly after our second location. Today we are a Learning Center with more than 150 students, and a team focused on making unique learning experiences.
